Our story
Four friends,
one idea
Bombay Budapest opened in 2021 on Október 6. utca. It was founded by four Indian friends living in Budapest, who together imagined an Indian restaurant in the city centre that would stand for contemporary values and for quality.
They brought their passion for Indian cooking with them. They did not want to repeat the familiar, faded picture of an “Indian restaurant”, but to bring the Bombay they know: a city where street food and fine dining sit on the same street, where the spice market is loud, and where the food always comes from someone's family history.
Indian chefs, with their own recipes
The chefs in our kitchen came from India and brought their own family recipes with them. These are not textbook recipes: behind each one there is a region, a household and a habit.
The tandoor runs all day, the dosa batter rests overnight before it meets the griddle, the dumplings are folded by hand, and the biryani finishes cooking in a sealed pot so that not one aroma escapes.
What we have changed is the plating and the pace. The dishes are lighter, the sauces are made with less fat, and the menu follows the season.
Manish Jain
One of the four founders, and today he runs the restaurant on his own. He did not set out to create an average Indian restaurant, but a place with a character of its own, from the plate to the music. The kitchen and the menu come together in his hands.
The venue
The restaurant is spread over three floors. The dining room and the bar are on the ground floor, there is further seating on the first floor, and the private room is in the basement.
Ground floor
The heart of the restaurant: an open, light space that also holds the bar. It is the place for lunch, for dinner with friends, or for two courses after work.
At the bar you will find more than thirty gins and cocktails built on Indian spices, and the full menu is available at the counter too, without a booking.
First floor
A quieter floor, open towards the ground floor. The best choice for larger groups and longer dinners, as there is less passing traffic.
Basement
A private room with its own service, separate from the other guests. We use it for company dinners, birthdays and private tastings.
It works with a set menu and à la carte alike.

The ground-floor dining room is wheelchair accessible, but there is no toilet on this floor, and the toilets are not adapted for wheelchair users. There is no lift, so the first floor and the basement private room can only be reached by stairs. If you need assistance, please call us in advance.
